The Alberty's Take on Atlanta

We spent last weekend in Atlanta. It was a fun, busy, wet, exciting long weekend!

Thursday after arriving at our hotel, we unloaded and checked the weather radars. Rain was in the area, but it looked like there would be a break long enough to get a baseball game in. Ainsley and Cadence stayed at the hotel (and then went to the mall across the street) with Nana and Sara. Pap-paw, Matt and I headed to Turner Field to see the Braves play the Cubs. Not long after we walked in to the stadium, it started to rain. And rain. And rain some more. It rained A LOT! We hung out at the stadium (and met up with some friends who were there for the game as well) hoping the rain would stop. It didn't stop raining and the game was postponed. Oh well. The good thing about it was that we had big plans for Friday, so we could head back to the hotel and get some much needed rest!

Friday, we all spent the day at another park. Six Flags! It had been a few years since we'd gone last and Ainsley and Cadence had never been. They are tall enough to ride several rides there, so we thought this year would be a good year for us to go with them. Ainsley rode several of the smaller roller coasters (the daredevil she is!) while Cadence stuck to the rides closer to the ground. Give her a few years and I'm sure she'll be riding right along with her big sister! Matt and I also got a chance to ride some of the grown-up roller coasters--something we (well, I) don't often get to do. There was one in particular that I had been wanting to ride ever since I saw it on one of those Travel Channel roller coaster shows. It was Goliath. And yes, I even got Matt to ride with me! :-) We were all pretty exhausted by the end of the day!

Saturday, we took the subway into downtown Atlanta. We were looking for some Braves for the girls. We hit the CNN Center to go to the Braves Clubhouse store and struck gold! Not only did we find some really cute shirts for Ainsley and Cadence, but we found some stuff for us too! We had lunch at the food court there then headed back to the subway station. Once back at the hotel, we had some time before we needed to go back downtown (driving this time) for a dry Braves game. We got there in time to watch a little batting practice from the Brewers (the other team). We made our way to the outfield seats to get a better vantage point. Matt made a great grab and snagged a home run ball that came *this close* to bonking Ainsley right on the head. We watched BP until it was time for everyone to head to their seats. We had dinner at the ball park and Ainsley got to have her own order of nachos. The game was a lot of fun (even if the Braves lost) to watch. Cadence had so much fun she fell asleep during the game! Sara got to see her name in lights wishing her a happy 21st birthday, too.

Sunday was Sara's birthday so she and Nana went out for a birthday lunch. I took Ainsley and Cadence to the mall for lunch and wandering around. Ainsley fell in love with the dolls at the American Girl store (she's got a birthday coming up!). Nana and Sara met up with us after their lunch then we headed back to the hotel for some swimming while we waited on Matt and Pap-paw. They had gone to another Braves game that afternoon. When they got back we took Sara out to dinner at PF Chang's to celebrate her big day. The food was great! We even surprised Sara with cake and ice cream back at the hotel after dinner.

Monday, we packed up and drove home. Now we're back to spending time doing the usual summer stuff. We've spent quite a bit of time at the pool this week. Ainsley and Cadence are going to turn into fish (perhaps mermaids) by the time summer is over. Both of them just love playing in the water. Ainsley has even started jumping into the 5ft section, going under, coming up and "swimming" back to the sides. Matt or myself are always right there with her of course! She's made such big progress thanks to private swimming lessons at the Y (same teacher as her group class this spring). Sara has been a big help with her in the pool too. Her confidence in the water has improved so much with their help! Cadence is also doing well. She's discovered how much fun it is to float around with a noodle and is venturing out to where she can't touch as well. Again, one of us is always with her! We are so proud of our little swimmer girls! Hopefully, I'll remember to take the camera up to the pool soon so I can share some pictures here.
